Submit

To help grow the selection of work on the site, we are giving away 50 copies of the Brushes mobile drawing app, the same app used to design the June 1, 2009 New Yorker Cover. (Your choice of iPhone or iPad edition) to the first 50 successful submissions. (Please note, only one program per person), US, UK & Australia only though, sorry!

Submitting your work to Scampd is easy. As long as it meets the following requirements, it’ll get published.

Does this cost money?

Nope! We’re just after the fame.

Is it illustration?

With the constant mixing and mashing of graphic design, photo retouching, fine art and what is considered ‘traditional illustration’, defining what is illustration is almost as difficult as defining what obscenity is). If the execution is primarily illustrative in nature, or has dominant illustrative elements and you were paid (or you paid someone) to do it, it probably passes the litmus test.

Is it recent?

Work featured in Scampd should be as fresh out of the oven as possible, but anything done in the last few years that is exceptional should do the trick.

Is it awesome?

It should be awesome.

Gather the evidence

The more images you have, the better. It is important to have images of the final work in situ i.e. if it is a billboard campaign, a shot of the billboard or final art file; if it is a wine label, a shot of the bottle. In most cases, an illustration commission is a collaboration between an Art Director/Designer and the talent. To get an accurate idea of the job as a whole, it is necessary to see how all these things work together in the end. The work on its own is acceptable as part of your submission, but we will only run it alongside the final artwork. If you want to send sketches or development of the work, feel free to. The more the merrier, but even a single image is fine!

Roll the Credits

Further to the point above, we want to ensure that as many people involved in the creation of the piece are given credit where credit is due. We understand that in some cases it might not be possible to get all the details all the time, or that you might not want to reveal the names of your shadowy associates, but here are some good examples of some credits that are nice to include:

  • Name of piece (include client name if relevant, for example TBWA for Apple)
  • Name of Illustrator
  • Date Produced
  • Location of Artist
  • Artist Rep (if the job was done through your rep)
  • Creative Agency
  • Creative Agency Location
  • Creative Director
  • Art Directors/Copywriters

Other credits to consider:

  • Art Buyer/Producer
  • Account Service
  • Photographers/Retouchers/Typographers etc.

If you want to link to your personal site/blog or agency folio, please include these links along with your credits

What’s it all about?

Tell us a bit about the piece. From a simple sentence to a full paragraph, tell us what you did, when you did it and, if you are so inclined, how. If you are sending multiple images through, please include captions etc.

Send it on!

Please do not send super large files to us as this will break the entire internet. Screen resolution (72dpi) is just fine. 1200-1600 pixels on the longest side, RGB, Jpegs. PDFs are fine as long as the resolution is decent. Email your images and captions to info@scampd.com or feel free to use a file sending service like yousendit etc.

What about TVCs or animations?

Why not? Our preference is some sort of embed code from Youtube or Vimeo. If you are sending a native video file or a link to one, please ensure its size is reasonable. All native files will be uploaded to the Scampd Vimeo account for easy embedding on the site. Flash files should be converted to avi or mov files. Don’t forget the credits!

What about digital work?

What about it? Bring it on! Screenshots, URLs, we’ll take it all.

What about ‘Scam’ ads, pro bono work, self promotional stuff etc.

We suppose that’s okay. Just please let us know this is the case. Pretty please.

What about work that didn’t go to market?

As long as you have permission to share it with the world, no problem, as we really want to avoid any embarrassing voicemails.

I’m the sensitive type, can you please turn the comments off on my post?

No worries. That said, our popular posts is populated by posts with the most comments.

I’ve submitted my work, but it hasn’t gone up. What gives?

Either we’re working through a backlog of posts or it didn’t make the cut. It happens, sorry! Have you read and followed all the submission guidelines?

What about copyright?

That’s your business. Literally. We’re just displaying the work here, and that’s the long and short of it. If copyright has been transferred to a third party, please let us know – we will always attribute copyright to the artist unless told otherwise.

Did we miss something? Email us at info@scampd.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
